Santiago

I came to Santiago to study in college, 5 years ago.  At the time I thought that Santiago was great but then I changed my mind, I could see the quiet of my last town was pretty good, really clear skies and star-filled nights. I like a few thing of Santiago but one of them is that we can find many things to do, especially in the cultural sense. Particularly you can find a lots of plays in theaters.

I dislike about this city is the pollution in every way. If we go to a hill of the city, for example: "San Cristobal", you can see how we are swimming in smog and noise pollution is terrible, especially in the center.
One change I would make is the installation of solar panels on all houses and buildings to start using solar energy.

The advice I would give to a stranger is that a couple of days visiting the city and then travel to south or north of Chile and see the real wonders of our country.

Why psychology

I would like to mention that this career was not the first, but I was studying engineering and it was there that I realized that although I easily did maths and physics, they were actually very boring, because in nothing changes the natural sciences, they are hard sciences, two plus two equals four, and there the subject ends. Then I found that I did not liked fixed things  and I wanted to study something that wasn´t "perfect".

I'm studying psychology because I am interested in the individual as an study object, because I care about subjective processes which people live, I'm interested to know why people do what they do or at least try to understand. Professionals in this area should contribute to society in building a critical spirit that questions the current order and seek a diferent tomorrow. The tools needed for professionals from this area are variable, but I think a couple of them are a critical conscience and knowing how to listen. I find it difficult to choose a favorite subject, I prefer to omit it

The Strike

The reasons to strike is to support a national mobilization regarding the demand for a free education, dignified and quality in it. In that sense it is an illusion to claim gains just by being radically mobilized, but they have earned profits in both grants and loans. On the other hand it is a reality that there is a detriment in the learning process because of the failure to attend classes, but I support that if people are really interested in a subject or knowledge, the classroom is not going to be an impediment to ask teachers for reading texts and then undertake self-development. I really believe that a teacher is not necessary to learn, only requires the initial motivation, Information is available to everybody unlike in the past

Regarding the news, it is certain that it seems good that they promise more public universities for regions, I think that  Bachelet and the ConcertaciĆ³n over the last 20 years of government won the distrust of a significant part of the population, including mine . Therefore, the truth is that I do not believe them.

School kills creativity

Just like Robinson I think the school kills creativity in children.

The current educational system is a normalization process in which the desire is create equal subjects equally useful for the neoliberal capitalist system in which we live.
Those children, who are medicated because they cannot be 8 hours a day sitting still and quiet, are not sick, they only have personalities and ways of being that are not compatible with the current educational system. In my opinion children are not sick, but sickened by not letting them manifest their approach on life, by not letting them express who they really are, not what others want them to be.

Comes into my mind that phrase that says: "Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it’ll spend its whole life believing that it is stupid."This sentence describes the current educational system, the PSU test as a form of entry to college is a test that measures" certain types of intelligence ", but the important thing is that it leaves out a universe of capabilities and intelligences that can not be measured on a standardized test.

Herbert Marcuse

In this reflexive work I'm going to tell you why i chose Herbert Marcuse, we remember that he came from the Frankfurt school of critical theory, he was known for his theorization of the effects of capitalism and modern technology.I picked up this author because it’s important for the development of social sciences.

I think it was a good presentation, but the short length in time didn´t let me explain the depth of the author´s proposal. Despite that, I think that the presentation had a good structure but if I had to change something i would talk less about the author´s life, and more about his intellectual work.

The most interesting part of the author’s theory is the mixture of a mind theory and an economic one, because normally these are studied in separate ways, when you analyze society in separately  you can’t understand in depth the advanced industrial society because as Marcuse says, people recognizes themselves in their commodities, they find their soul in their belongings, then if you see this in separate ways, you can´t really understand the problem, because all social interactions has economic influences.

These are my thoughts on my presentation, I hope you've enjoyed it in class, I'll see you there and wish you a happy long weekend.

Prague

I really don’t have a lot of ambitions, just a few but maybe could be difficult.  The thing what I really want to do is travel and visit as many countries as possible. But if I have to select one place in specific now, I have to say Praga the capital of Czech Republic, this city is considerate one of the most beautiful cites in the world, because this place don’t receive any big attacks in the period of worlds wars, indeed the city have a very big castle and enormous cathedral. I would like to achieve this ambition because I think if you travel around the world and see or feel other cultures you can understand the life in another way, I think is the only way to expand your mind.

The inspiration of this travel comes with one friend, because he go to Praga in the summer and he told me all of his adventures, and mentioned all the wonders of the place, also in TV I saw a program of Praga and a traveller show the culture, the food, and I really like the place.

If I accomplish this ambition I can consider another place in the world to visit, other peoples to know, and another dream to realize.

See you soon.

Goran Bregovic - Ederlezi (live, 2005)

This is some difficult to me. It’s hard select one song, because I have a lot of favorite’s songs. But in this moment, if I have to choose one that will be Ederlezi” of Goran Bregovic.  This song has been used for the movie “Time of the Gypsies” by Emir Kusturica.

I heard this song for first time when I saw the film of Kusturica whit friends, 1 or 2 year ago and I liked immediately because this song reminds me what I want for my future, for my travels. It´s a dream for me to know all these regions, I want to know Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, etc. It´s my fantasy to know the culture, the people, the food and traditions of those areas.  I like this song too because the voice of the woman it’s so nice, she can transmit a lot of feelings with her voice, and sound of the instrument are greats, the musicians are a really good orchestra. Goran Bregovic it’s a really prodigious compositor, he can accomplish a complement between the sounds of instrument and the voice, really wonderful.
